Cottonwood Heights

dragonflies (3-4 years):

We are Dragonflies. During these years, you will see how our personalities begin to develop. In addition to using symbolic thought (pretending a towel is a cape), you will see us start to concentrate more.  The wheels are turning, which is why it's important for you to always ask us "What are you thinking?"

Each month we learn:

  • 3 letters
  • 2 numbers
  • 2 colors
  • 1 shape
  • A new personality trait to share at home (sharing, honesty, thankfulness, etc.)

At Compass, our teachers know the best way to engage us.  Since we learn in a variety of ways, we get the perfect combination of hands-on learning and mental stimulation.  We are encouraged to work individually and in teams.  We're a bit of a challenge, which is why we like being challenged.

There are two preschool lessons daily.

9:00 - 11:00 Their brains are turned on after our morning snack, so we engage in Circle Time.  The Dragonflies learn about letters and numbers, they even learn how to write them. The numbers may not be perfect, and the coloring may be outside the lines, but that's how they learn. More importantly, that's what makes each child unique.

3:00 - 4:00 It can be really hard to focus at this age, which is why Compass teachers use stations.  The children work in small groups.  Developing their senses with water tables, painting and play-dough is a fun way for children to learn about the world around them.
